Royal Palm Beach Florida History

The history of West Palm Beach, Florida began more than 5,000 years ago with the arrival of the first indigenous people. In 1890, the U.S. Census counted 200 people who had settled in what would later become West Palm Beach.

Florida state legislature established Palm Beach County in 1909 by carving out the northern part of Dade County, and a massive drainage project followed. The city continued to grow, and in 1959 the state legislature issued a charter calling the development "Royal Palm Beach." In 1912, West Beach's fate was sealed when the state legislature passed Senate Bill 18 in April 1909, establishing it as the county's new seat of government, with WestPalm Beach as the county's new seat of government. After being created by the Florida State Legislature in 2009 to divide and become the seat of a northern part of Dade County, it became the largest city in Florida and the second largest in the United States, behind Miami.

In 1894, the Breakers expanded the Florida East Coast Railway southward into the area, built the Royal Poinciana Hotel and developed their own town to house the hotel workers, who later became West Palm Beach. Flagler and his workers continued to build structures in the city and other parts of Dade County for the rest of their lives. The city, in turn, built the WestPalm Beach Municipal Stadium in 1963 and completed its first closed shopping center in 1960.

On October 29, 1966, the new WestPalm Beach Municipal Stadium, home of the Palm Beach County High School football team, was inaugurated. Eastern northbound flights departed from Miami and landed in New York, from Morrison Field and landed at the airport's main terminal, Miami-Dade International Airport (MD-11).

The city of West Palm Beach also provides water and sewage connections for the city of Palm Beach. Interstate 95 cuts through the city and connects several traffic hubs with WestPalm Beach, including the entrance to Palm Beach International Airport. The Florida Turnpike also crosses the city and connects it to Interstate 75, the Florida State Highway System and the State of Florida Highway System.

There are several municipal golf courses in town, such as the Palm Beach Country Club and the Royal Palm Beach Golf Course, as well as a number of private courses.

It has an estimated population of 1,250,000 in 2008, with a total area of 2.5 million hectares and has a contiguous urbanized area in which West Palm Beach is the core city and covers most of eastern Palm Beach County. The Seagull, which stands in the Royal Poinciana Chapel in Whitehall, is the oldest surviving Palm Beach house, built in 1886. The Palm Beach County Historical Society is operated and maintained by the Royal Palms Beach Historical Association, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization affiliated with it.

Flamingo Park was originally founded as a pineapple plantation by a local developer and developer who saw the potential in the area for developing Palm Beach as an industrial center. The Phipps Plaza building was built by the Palm Beach Company and is located at the corner of West Palm Avenue and South Main Street in Royal Palms Beach, Florida. In 1884, the WestPalm Beach Canal was completed, providing access to the Atlantic Ocean from the western part of the city and the southern end of Florida State Park.

The Mango Promenade was designated the Historic District of West Palm Beach in 1995 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. In 1995, the neighborhood became part of the Royal Palms Beach Historic District, a historic neighborhood in the city of RoyalPalm Beach, Florida. The Mangos Promeniades became the historic neighborhoods on the Palm Beach of West in 1994 and 1999, both neighborhoods were included in the National Register of Historic Places in Florida and both were included on them.
